Multiple research positions available at Asian Centre for Mathematics Education

The Asian Centre for Mathematics Education (ACME) at East China Normal University (ECNU) is a newly established research institute. It is based in the School of Mathematical Sciences and located in the Minhang Campus of ECNU, Shanghai. Its current director is Professor Lianghuo Fan, who returned to China after having studied and worked in the US, Singapore and the UK for over two decades and started his career at ECNU as a distinguished professor in April 2018.  The vision of the Centre is to become a world-class institute of mathematics education research and development. ACME hopes to contribute to the advancement of mathematics education research and development in China, Asia and the World. ACME is seeking the following three full-time assistant/associate research fellows in mathematics education from both at home and abroad, in addition to two post-doctoral research fellows (those who are interested in the post-doctoral fellow positions should contact Professor Lianghuo Fan directly at lhfan@math.ecnu.edu.cn for further information). 

Position 1: Associate Research Fellow (equivalent to Associate Professor in terms of academic ranking)
 The Associate Research Fellow is expected to lead and involve actively in developing, conducting and disseminating ACME research projects. To 
assist the Director of ACME in organising academic events and stimulating the growth of young aspiring scholarsis another major responsibility of the Associate Research Fellow.

Requirements:

1.  An applicant must have an earned doctoral degree in mathematics education or a related field in reputable universities or research institutions.

2.  An applicant should have a clear research interest, be willing to explore new directions and be open-minded in terms of research.

3.  An applicant must maintain a high standard of ethical and professional conduct.

4.  For applicants from non-English speaking countries, proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.   

The successful applicant must have excellent abilities in mathematics education research and academic writing, as evidenced by an outstanding publication record in major peer-reviewed journals and/or conferences as the first author or corresponding author. 

Position 2 & 3: Assistant Research Fellow 

Position 2 Assistant Research Fellow (Senior Level). We expect the Assistant Research Fellow will actively participate in developing and conducting ACME research projects, carry out the research and writing tasks with high quality, and assist Director of ACME in organizing academic events such as annual symposium and in disseminating ACME research to the wider world. 

Requirements:

1.  An applicant must have at minimum an earned master's degree (doctoral degree preferred) in mathematics education or a related field.

2.  An Applicant should have a good spirit of cooperation, a strong ability of learning and be open-minded in terms of research.

3.  An applicant must maintain a high standard of ethical and professional conduct.

4.  For applicants from non-English speaking countries, proficiency in both written and spoken English is required. 

The successful applicant must have strong fundamental knowledge in mathematics and statistics. Priority will be given to applicants who have excellent abilities in mathematics education research and academic writing. 

Position 3 Assistant Research Fellow (Junior level). We expect the Assistant Research Fellow will assist the Director of ACME in dealing with daily centre management as well as academic matters and participate in ACME research projects as well.  

Requirements:

1. Applicants must have at minimum an earned bachelor's degree (master's degree or above preferred) in mathematics education or a related field.

2. An applicant must have strong interpersonal and team building skills and maintain a high standard of ethical and professional conduct.

3. For applicants from non-English speaking countries, proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.  

The successful applicant must have good knowledge of research and practice in mathematics education.

Salary and Benefits

1. The annual salary is up from 240,000 RMB (before tax, monthly payment) for the Associate Research Fellow, up from 150,000 RMB for Position 2 Assistant Research Fellow (Senior Level), and up from 120,000 RMB for Position 3 Assistant Research Fellow (Junior Level). Employee's fringe benefits will be provided in accordance with relevant policies and regulations of the university.

2. All the positions carry additional generous financial support for academic conference travel and research activity.
